NFL Week 3 picks and predictions….

Posted by Josh Weitz on September 25, 2009

nfl3

Ok i’m back so here is the first round of picks for the season…. Interesting opening weeks of the season…. so let’s jump right into it.

Pittsburgh (1-1) at Cincinnati (1-1)-  On paper doesn’t seem like this should be close, but i expect a tough game even though the steelers are the better team.  Winner- Pittsburgh.

Washington (1-1) at Detroit (0-2)-  Jeez washington doesn’t look very good, and detroit doesn’t seem to be able to catch a break but i think this is finally the week the get of the snide.  Winner- Detroit.

Green Bay (1-1) at St. Louis (0-2)-  While green bay struggled last week this will help them get back on track, or it will show that the hype was just that.  Winner- Green Bay.

San Francisco (2-0) at Minnesota (2-0)-  This may be the best match-up of the day. Both teams play very similar style and the team with the least mistakes will win.  Winner- Minnesota.

Atlanta (2-0) at New England (1-1)-  While it is early in the season this is a make or break game for the patriots, and will show everyone if they are for real, or living of the name.  Winner- New England.

Tennessee (0-2) at New York Jets (2-0)-  This is intriguing, if Sanchez is on his back i look for a long game, but the titans have not been playing up to their ability at all.  Winner- New York Jets.

Kansas City (0-2) at Philadelphia (1-1)- Kansas City is improving but philly has too many weapons, and playing in philly that crowd will be rabid.  Winner- Philly.

New York Giants (2-0) at Tampa Bay (0-2)- Tampa bay is in for a long season, and this is just going to be another week of futility.  Winner- New York Giants.

Cleveland (0-2) at Baltimore (2-0)-  Cleveland is just horrible in all phases of the game, and Joe Flacco looks like a guy who has been winning forever.  Winner- Baltimore.

Jacksonville (0-2) at Houston (1-1)-  Jacksonville is in a lot of trouble and sadly i don’t see them winning anytime soon, they just don’t look like a very organized team out there.  Winner- Houston.

Chicago (1-1) at Seattle (1-1)-  The trip to seattle used to be the kiss of the death to all teams, but that is over, and with matt hasselbeck out again , look out.  Winner- Chicago.

New Orleans (2-0) at Buffalo (0-2)-  Drew Brees looks like a machine and the buffalo defense will be hard pressed to put up any resistance to this offense, and T.O. gets closer to exploding.  Winner- New Orleans.

Denver (2-0) at Oakland (1-1)-   denver has a dose of reality this week, look for oakland to control the ball with the power run game, that denver shouldn’t be able to contain.  Winner- Oakland.

Miami (0-2) at San Diego (1-1)-  Miami was sexy last year, this year reality is cruel.  The Chargers should be able to get on track against this defense.  Winner- San Diego.

Indianapolis (2-0) at Arizona (1-1)-  This should be the most exciting game of the day, both defenses have had their issues, and won’t be getting better this week.  Winner- Indy.

Carolina (0-2) at Dallas (1-1)-  How is that extension looking for Jake Delhomme?  This week won’t look any better, look for another poor preformance. Winner- Dallas.

So there u have it, everyone have a greta week, see u on the review…

NFL Week 16 preview and picks…

Posted by Josh Weitz on December 18, 2008

nfl3

Rough week last week 9-7 last week, brings me to 84-48-1. but looking for a  good bounce back this week.

Indianpolis (10-4) at Jacksonville (5-9)-  Jacksonville pulled one out against Green bay but i don’t look for them to do the same against the hottest team in the nfl.  Peyton Manning is my mvp, and the defense may get a nice boost with Bob sanders returning.  Winner- Indianapolis.

ok so here is today’s winner, and ill have the rest of the picks later this afternoon.

Baltimore (9-5) at Dallas (9-5)- This is a battle of defense, dallas has been playing very well on defense the offense is suddenly holding them back.  Baltimore got most of their losses early in the season and look like a much better team as Joe Flacco is developing nicely.  Winner- Baltimore.

Cincinatti (2-11-1) at Cleveland (4-8)-   Cleveland really needs this game for pride more then anything, but have major issues, nothing Romeo Crennell can do to save his job.  Only thing cleveland can look forward to is auditioning for new management and probably the last time Braylon Edwards will be in Cleveland.  Winner- Cleveland.

New Orleans (7-7) at Detroit (0-14)-  New Orleans is going to have a tough time in this game.  Reggie Bush shut down for the year, just one less weapon.  Also what do Saints have to play for, the Lions are very motivated and playing better.  If they can keep it up and get some breaks they may pull it out.  Winner- New Orleans.

Miami (9-5) at Kansas City (2-12)-  Miami can run the table and make the playoffs, who would have thought it was possible after the year they had last year.  Bottom line Kansas City isn’t giving up on the season yet, but they just don’t have the talent to keep up.  Winner- Miami.

Arizona (8-6) at New England (9-5)-  Arizona has really packed in after clinching a playoff spot.  Also New England has their backs against the wall.  Bottom line this is a make or break game for the pats, and they know it.  They are also better in big games, and with nothing for the Cards to play for they should win.  Winner- New England.

San Francisco (5-9) at St. Louis (2-12)-  The Niners have been playing hard, and Mike Singletary has been looking more and more like a real coach after the rocky start to the season.  St. Louis have not been playing well and look like they have packed it in totally.  Winner- San Francisco.

Pittsburgh (11-3) at Tennessee (12-2)- Pittsburgh has been playing like a beast, and this is their chance to shine.  Tennessee got some bad news this week with Albert Haynesworth also out, they are not likely to be able to stop anything or anyone.  Winner- Pittsburgh.

San Diego (6-8) at Tampa Bay (9-5)- San Diego finding ways to steal games but still are a very talented team that doesn’t that killer instinct.  Tampa bay gets a nice boost as they get Jeff Garcia back.  That should be enough with the defense looking to get back into form.  Winner- Tampa Bay.

Buffalo (6-8) at Denver (8-6)- Buffalo finding new ways to lose games lately.  Denver the team that i can not figure out ever.  I still don’t know which team shows up.  Buffalo needs a win not for the playoffs but to fix their battered ego.  I think they can get it.  Winner- Buffalo.

Houston (7-7) at Oakland (3-11)-  Houston is on a tear.  Bottom line Oakland is struggling in every phase of the game.  Jemarcus Russell has looked like a green rookie and that he didn’t learn anything last year.  Their defense was suppossed to be the strong suit of the team, has yet to play well.  Winner- Houston.

New York (9-5) at Seattle (3-11)-  Seattle has been playing decent and they need to give Mike Holmgren a great send off, and teams never seem to do well when they have to travel cross country.  The Jets are having issues with the defense suddenly.  Winner- Seattle.

Atlanta (9-5) at Minnesota (9-5)-   One of the more interesting games of the weekend. Atlanta is fighting for thier playoff lives.  Minnesota is playing a lot better of defense lately.  Neither team will be shocked if they can win the game.  The difference will be Adrian Peterson.  Winner- Minnesota.

Philadelphia (8-5-1) at Washington (7-7)- Even though Jim Zorn thinks he may be the worst coach in america, the redskins still have enough to make this an interesting game. Philadelphia has really rallied around the benching of Donovan Mcnabb.  Winner- Philadelpia.

Carolina (11-3) at New York Giants(11-3)-   This is for supremacy in the NFC.   New York has really looked horrible since the Plaxico situation.  Carolina is peaking at the right time.  I look for Carolina to make a big statement on the road and for New York to keep tumbling.  Winner- Carolina.

Green Bay (5-9) at Chicago (8-6)-  This is a huge game for the bears and their chances to make the playoffs.  After last week it looks the packers are a beaten team, arguing on the fields.  This will be a cold game and i look for Chicago to run the ball a lot which is not the strong suit of the packer defense.  Winner- Chicago.

Penn State want JoePa to die on sidelines….

Posted by Josh Weitz on December 17, 2008

joepa

Ok, i love Joe Paterno, but really a 3 year deal? Yes he should be able to be done when he wants to leave. But by securing his job for the next three years, all Penn State is really doing is making sure Joe will die on the sidelines. There is no other way this ends. Joe is more the figure head then an actual coach, but Penn State has a gun to their head. They can not fire him, boosters would be pissed. But this is a situation where you have to step back and say what is best for the school. Yes joe at the helm is great but if he dies on the sidelines what does that do to your image? Maybe caving to the pressure was all you could do but damn….

NFL Week 15 picks and preview…

Posted by Josh Weitz on December 11, 2008

nfl2ok coming off a pretty good week, 12-4 with an overall of 75-38-1, so not so bad… ok tonight’s game first. then the rest of my pics will be in there tommorrow….

New Orleans (7-6) at Chicago (7-6)-  Interesting match-up.  It’s going to be cold in chicago, and i look for them to run the ball all over a defense that while improving are still not there.  New Orleans will keep it close with the offense but i don’t see that being enough.  Winner-  Chicago.

All right here are the rest of the picks….

Seattle (2-11) at St. Louis (2-11)- Well not a lot to say about this game, except someone has to win i think. Winner- St. Louis.

Tampa Bay (9-4) at Atlanta (8-5)-  This is a great match-up, very exciting.  Jeff Garcia is going to play though he has an injured calf, and that might slow him down some.  Atlanta want to be looked at as legitimate, and Tampa’s defense looked old last week and with Michael Turner playing well, it could be another long game.  Winner- Atlanta.

Washington (7-6) at Cincinnatti (1-11-1)- Washington has been having some issues the past few weeks, but nothing says get well fast like playing the bengals.  Washington should have no issues this week scoring points and the bengals are terrible, bottom line the one game they one appears to be a fluke.  Winner- Washington.

Tennessee (12-1) at Houston (6-7)- Houston has some huge defense holes mostly against stopping the run.  Which wouldn’t be an issue is the titans weren’t close to the top of the league in rush offense.  I do think houston can score with them but i don’t know if they will be able to put up enough points to keep it close.  Winner- Tennessee.

Detroit (0-13) at Indianapolis (9-4)-  Well Indy’s 5 year streak of winning 12 games in a season looked like it might end, but suddenly no one is hotter then the colts.  Detroit will not win a game this year.  I love Rod Marinelli and he is a very good coach its a shame he has to put up with this team.  Winner- Indianapolis.

Green Bay (5-8) at Jacksonville (4-9)- This is a terrible game to pick, both teams show flashes but neither has been able to put it all together.  I think the match up could favor the pack, but if the jags can sustain a run offense against a very terrible green bay run defense it may be a lot closer.  Winner- Jacksonville.

San Diego (5-8) at Kansas City (2-11)-  Talk about a tough game to pick.  KC has been tough in most games and while they are losing but they are not giving up, and have been competitive in every game they play.  San Diego needs this game to stay competitive, but i think they may have given up on their season.  Winner- Kansas City.

Buffalo (6-7) at NY Jets (8-5)-  Buffalo after starting off so hot, has had issues scoring.  The jets need this game to stay in the race for the AFC East.  I think Brett is going to have a big game.  Winner-  NY Jets.

Minnesota (8-5) at Arizona (8-5)-  The cards are in the playoffs.  Wow, so weird to see that written down.  Minnesota meanwhile is still working on making the playoffs.  Arizona is very tough at home.  Tavaris Jackson will be the starter unless something amazing happens.  Winner- Arizona.

Pittsburgh (10-3) at Baltimore (9-4)- This is the game of the week in my opinion.  In this game you will see the 2 very best defenses in the league.  This will be a very low scoring game.  Points will be at a premium, the winner will be the team that makes less mistakes.  If this was in pittsburgh i’d say they would be the favorite.  Winner- Baltimore.

Denver (8-5) at Carolina (10-3)- Denver is not a team that i have any idea what they are able to do.  Every game is seriously like a crap shoot.  Carolina is a much better team either way.  And if it gets high scoring they have no problem running the ball and slowing it down.  Winner- Carolina.

New England (8-5) at Oakland (3-10)-  Oakland is not a good team, but they may have a very distracted Matt Cassell assuming he is playing.  Either way i still think talents wins, and the pats have much more then oakland, and since the pats stayed in California instead of traveling home, the lag will not be an issue.  Winner- New England.

NY Giants (11-2) at Dallas (8-5)-  Wow, in a battle of who is more distracted.  Dallas is one bad pass not going to T.O. from imploding all together.  The Giants with a week removed from their own madness should have a bounceback game.  This may be a defensive struggle, since both teams offenses have been so crappy lately.  This would seriously knock the cowboys out of playoff contention.   Winner- NY Giants.

Cleveland (4-9) at Philadelphia (7-5-1)-  This is a wonderful monday night game.  Bottom line 3rd quarterback, against jim Johnson and that defense, i think ken Dorsey will be running for his life.  Winner- Philadelphia.

Yay no more Oscar….

Posted by Josh Weitz on December 7, 2008

oscarhoyax17_656x800

Last night you saw what i have seen his entire career, an average boxer, who doesn’t have the ability to pull the trigger. My hatred for Oscar started as he beat one of my favorites Pernell Whitaker in a garbage decsion. But after last nights performance its clear to everyone he is only out for the last pay day and has lost so much from whatever talent he had. Huge day for manny who i would like to see fight either pretty boy who i think would kill him but maybe, or see him again ricky hatton, they would be huge fights and hopefully they can put them together. so this is my farewell to the golden fraud, good bye and hopefully we only see you as a promoter. where you seem to have your real A-game.

The big fight….

Posted by Josh Weitz on December 6, 2008

delahoya

This is going to be a great fight.  I’m very concerned De La Hoya is too concerned about knocking out Manny that could back fire on him.  If Oscar can keep him at the end of his punches he should dominate.  He is bigger and should be stronger.  But if Manny can move around and with his activity make Oscar unable to land effective punches, this could be a close fight if it goes to the score cards.  Bottom line i think it will go the distance, and i think Manny wins keeping De La Hoya unable to land the knockout punch he seems to be talking so much about.

NFL Week 14 picks and preview…

Posted by Josh Weitz on December 4, 2008

nfl1

Ok back to picking tonights game, wow, great match-up to kick off this week by the way, again sorry for tech issues, but back in effect.

Oakland (3-9) at San Diego (4-8)-  This is a terrible match-up, San diego is maybe one of the worse cases of crap i’ve seen with that much talent on the team.  Oakland is a franchise that if it were a child would be in forster care due to the mismanagement from the top down.  This game should be a tie, to make it right, but i figure that isn’t going to happen, so unfortunately someome must win.  Winner- San Diego.

ok here is the rest of the weekend’s picks..

Jacksonville (4-8) at Chicago (6-6)- It’s really hard to figure the bears out, but the defense has been solid.  Jacksonville has been terrible throwing the ball this year, and with the bears likely to stop the running attack they will have to put it up more then normal.  Winner- Chicago.

Minnesota (7-5) at Detroit (0-12)-  Had the Williams’ been suspended i’d be more apt to take the lions.  But that isn’t going to happen.  Detroit is on the way to tying the Buccaneer’s dubious record of going winless for the entire season.  Sorry Lions fans it’s just not going to be.  Winner- Minnesota.

Houston (5-7) at Green Bay (5-7)-  This is one of the more intriguing match-ups of the week.  I really think the texans can do it, great running game and green bay has looked eractic at best.  And they have not been able to stop the rush and protect the quarterback, both things Houston excels at.  Winner- Houston.

Cincinnati (1-10-1) at Indianapolis (8-4)-  Well this is another in the hit parade of the bengals losing season.  The Colts were very sloppy last week but found a way to win, i don’t see them having that issue at all this week.  This is a mismatch in every sence of the word.  Winner- Indianapolis.

Atlanta (8-4) at New Orleans (6-6)- This will again be another Drew Brees showcase.  But inevitably it will end like much of their games with a loss.  Atlanta is loooking like a new team compared to last year.  Matt Ryan is playing better every week and could lead them to the playoffs.  Winner- Atlanta.

Philadelphia (6-5-1) at NY Giants (11-1)-  Philly is not going to make the playoffs and this game could be make or break for both andy reid and donovan mcnabb.  They won’t win but need to keep it close to keep both of thier jobs in my opinion.  Winner- NY Giants.

Cleveland (4-8) at Tennessee (11-1)- This is an easy one.  Third string quarterback against a top flight team.  this should be a blowout, and tennessee should win going away.  Winner- Tennessee.

Miami (7-5) at Buffalo (6-6)- This game will be in canada. and the roof will be closed and it would be snowing.  This is a huge disadvantage to the bills, and they will be starting J.P. Losman.  Both horrible things going against the bills in this one.  also bad call on nfl for game this late in season in canada.  Winner- Miami.

Kansas City (2-10) at Denver (7-5)- Ahh the mystery of the broncos.  Again this a game they should win but those aren’t always the games they do win.  But the can move the ball on the ground and that should work to their advantage.  Should be a shotout.   Winner- Denver.

NY Jets (8-5) at San Francisco (4-8)-  This is an interesting game only in the way the jets will respond after getting beat in a game they should win.  This should be a great bounce back game for their egos.  San Francisco won last week in one of the ugliest games ever, but not this week.  Winner- NY Jets.

New England (7-5)  at Seattle (2-10)-  Seattle could play spoiler to the patriots playoff chances, unfortunately they don’t have the personel to do it.  they have really looked like a team that has given up on their season, and their coach which is sad way for him to go out.  Winner- New England.

St. Louis (2-10) at Arizona (7-5)-  Arizona after being exposed as an over achieving team when they play some legit temas.  But lucky for them the rams are terrible and the cards have beaten terrible teams.  So get ready for this reality a win and they clinch divison and will be in the playoffs.  Winner- Arizona.

Dallas (8-4) at Pittsburgh (9-3)-  This is a must win for both teams, but sadly the way the cowboys block they should look for a long day.  With Marion Barber likely to play but not up to snuff, they will have a huge challenge stopping the blitzburgh defense in pittsburgh.  Winner- Pittsburgh.

Washington (7-5) at Baltimore  (8-4)-  Should be a great defensive match-up.  the running game for the skins could be tough with portis not a 100 percent.  ball control will be the main point of emphasis in the game.  Baltimore is a much better defense and i think that will be the difference in the game.  Winner- Baltimore.

Tampa Bay (9-3) at Carolina (9-3)- By far the game of the week.  Carolina is rolling and undefeated at home.  This will be a great game, and both teams play great defense.  Both teams very evenly matched. but i think the home cooking will be all the difference.  Winner- Carolina

Plaxico has to be the biggest winner in life…

Posted by Josh Weitz on December 3, 2008

nfl_g_burress_580Well I’m sure you’re tired of reading about this winner but after the mayor of NYC weighed in i feel like i need to comment.  First what a freaking moron.  Second good for him.  This couldn’t have happened to a bigger a-hole.  Say goodbye to Plaxico there is no way he is not going to jail.  Which i’m fine with, its ironic that the celebrity that usually gets guys like him out of trouble, will be the very things that screws him.  Generally been a celebrity is a good thing but here Harris Smith here is going to end up in jail and end his career because guys like him can’t get with the program.  You want to show off your bling and money you’re a target.  Packing heat like Dirty Harry i get, but how hard is it to get a permit? What really gets me is that his wife is a lawyer, what kind of legal advice would you take from a woman who can’t get her husband to not roll to the club strapped like some sort of despardo without a clue.  So i say goodbye to a cancer, who thought he was much better then he really was, and never took being the NFL seriously, which is evidenced by his lack of being on time and a team player.  Hopefully other NFL players will finally learn if you’re not comfortable where you are, then don’t go….

NFL week 13 review and recap…

Posted by Josh Weitz on December 3, 2008

nflWell sorry no picks had some technical difficulties but i am back up and running and will have picks for this coming week starting tomorrow.. What an interesting week, most of the favorites wonand apparently a bad week to be a home team…

I think no one is surprised Tennessee got back on track and stomped the lions.  Hell even VY got into the game.  Detroit still looking like the team who is going to go winless, which is sad because i think you would have to kill their coach to make that happen, which is sad because he appears to be the only one who hasn’t given up on the season….Dallas getting the benefit of a weak schedule to get right, but the wins count all the same.  Seattle has no motivation to play hard with their lame duck coach, and it’s showing on the field now…Donovan McNabb looks like he during their super bowl run all of the sudden. Apparently the benching wasn’t such a bad thing and he is responding with great performance since.  Arizona is getting exposed the past few weeks as a team that is over achieving in a very weak divison even with all that offensive firepower…Oh my Buffalo, not sure what went wrong but suddenly this team is looking like one of the worse in the league after starting the season so well and looking like a real threat in the afc.  Maybe Trent Edwards getting hurt not such a bad thing.  The 49ers win, and really it doesn’t matter how ugly when you suck that bad, a win is a win…Cincinatti looks like a team lucky to have that one win, Ryan Fitzpatrick looks like a high school quaterback that got to start in the nfl and the defense couldn’t stop oklahoma.  Baltimore looking better every week, Joe Flacco still makes some bad throws but is making less of them of every week, and has looked great for a rookie….Indianapolis, well on the plus side of things you got the win, and that is really all you can say about that.  Meanwhile Cleveland could it get any worse, i mean the injuries to both of your starting quaterbacks, and now you have Ken Dorsey.  Not a recipe for winning at all…Green Bay just can’t seem to get a win in these close game, that was their 4th loss by 4 or fewer points.  Which has led to their woeful record.  Carolina living on the edge again.  Steve Smith is a best bottom line, held down for the frist half but made the big plays when they needed it….Miami again a win is a win.  Say what you want but with few changes from last year is Parcells a genius well hard to argue after miami won only 1 game last year.  St. Louis is a mess, they need to blow that team up from the coaches to the players and get into rebuilding mode, which if you ask ram fan has been going on for the last 3 years….Tampa Bay is one tough cookie, and just find a way to win.  That defense should keep them in any game, and if they can get anything out of Carnell Williams they may make their offense even better. New Orleans same issue all year unable to get any stops on defense when they need them.  Drew Brees may break the yardage record but will anyone care if the team is under .500…NY Giants are the team to beat.  Not just in the NFC but for the whole damn thing.  With pedistrian recievers and a great run game and that defense, the safe money is on them to repeat.  Eli Manning is having an MVP type of season and isn’t getting any of the pub.  Meanwhile washington lost but can still make the playoffs and will be a very tough out.  With an underrated defense they are better then they looked this week…Atlanta wow!! Who could have imagined that one draft pick could change a franchise but yet there is Matt Ryan.  Amazing turnaround, they may not make the playoffs but with the year they are having they have nothing but positive things to build on.  Meanwhile San Diego has to be one of the biggest dissappointments of the year.  So much talent and way underperforming, but i think Norv will keep his job because after firing Marty you don’t want to fire Norv after 2 seasons, because that would make it even worse….Denver i still can not figure them out.  Every week it just amazes me how awful they can look, then turn around and look like a contender in the afc, its that inconsistency that has kept them from making any noise in the AFC.  NY Jets stil a good team but maybe we can stop the talk about them being the favorites in the AFC for just a week.  Brett was average and the defense did not play as wel as they had been the past few weeks…Pittsburgh exercised some demons with that win, and i think made a statement that they are a team to be feared, especially with that defense.  New England is going to have games like that, but looked overwhelmed with the pass rush that was relentless.  They will bounce back but may miss out on the playoffs with this costly loss…Kansas City is a spread team but keep trying to be a power run team lol, its hard to say what they are other then terrible.  LJ is playing out the string and will be traded at the end of the season if they are smart. Oakland well hard to say what stage of developement the team is in at the moment.  But i can tell you that what they are is terrible and wins are more accidental then by design….Minnesota got a big win.  Adrian Peterson is the best running back in football.  But with the suspension of the Williams’ the defense just got a lot weaker.  Chicago just not sure what they are doing wrong, another loss in a close game, and not enough offense to bail out a tired defense….Houston isn’t a playoff team but looked great on monday night.  this is a team that may contend for a wild card one day if they can stay healthy.  Meanwhile Jacksonville, what a fall from grace.  I never pictured them sucking so bad, and feel bad for fred taylor but i’m sure he will land on a good team…..
